Like Merrill & Co's highly successful C-28 and C-18 dreadnoughts, the new Merrill OM-28
is a near-perfect recreation of a classic: the 1930 Martin OM-28. Esteemed for its strong, balanced
tone and string-to-string clarity, the original Martin OM-28 guitars from 1930 have become rare and
highly prized collectibles.
Rather than creating a modern interpretation of the OM, Merrill & Company chose to build an OM just as it was built in 1930: same materials, same bracing, same appointments, and same handcrafting. By doing so, we ensure that our OM achieves the same look, feel, and sound so prized in the originals. The top is master grade Adirondack spruce, with forward-shifted Adirondack spruce braces scalloped and tuned by hand for optimal tone. Fine pattern herringbone purfling, wood strip rosette, dark tortoise-colored modified teardrop pickguard, short pattern diamond and squares fingerboard inlay, and genuine antique ivory nut elements incorporated benefit the player: an adjustable truss rod and "T" frets for easier set-up, vintage-style Waverly (tm) tuners for accurate tuning, and old growth Honduran Rosewood back and sides instead of the similar, but endangered, Brazilian rosewood (still available by special order). |
